What Should You Tell a Roofer if You Have Bird Mesh Around Your Solar Panels?
If you already have bird mesh installed around your solar panels, tell your roofer before they start working on the roof.

The goal is simple: make sure the roof gets repaired without accidentally leaving pigeons a new way underneath the solar panels.
Why Does the Roofer Need to Know?
Bird mesh closes the exposed gap around the perimeter of the solar array.
If a roofer needs to replace tiles, repair an area near the panels, or work underneath the edge of the array, the mesh can sometimes be in the way.
That does not mean the bird mesh was installed incorrectly.
It just means the roofer should know it is there before the work begins so everyone can plan around it.
What if the Bird Mesh Has to Be Moved?
Sometimes a section may need to be temporarily moved to complete the roof repair.
The important thing is making sure that section is properly restored afterward.
A pigeon does not need the entire bird proofing system to fail. One opening along the perimeter can give them access underneath the panels again.

Once the work is finished, check the area around the solar panels for anything that looks different.

If pigeons suddenly start disappearing underneath the panels after roof work, that is another strong sign that an opening may have been created.
Seeing pigeons sitting on top of the panels is different. Bird mesh is designed to keep them from getting underneath the array, not prevent them from ever landing on top.
What if You Are Replacing the Entire Roof?
A full roof replacement is a different situation.
The solar panels normally need to be coordinated with the roofing project, and existing bird mesh may need to be removed while the solar system is being taken off or reinstalled.
Before the project begins, make sure you know who will be responsible for restoring the pigeon proofing once the solar panels are back in place.
