How Can You Tell Where Pigeons Are Getting Under Solar Panels?

If pigeons are living underneath your solar panels, finding the exact entry point can help identify whether existing bird mesh is missing, loose, or damaged.

Watch the Birds

The easiest method is often simply watching where pigeons go.

Look for birds repeatedly:

  • Walking along one panel edge

  • Gathering around a corner

  • Disappearing underneath the same section

  • Entering near conduit or roof vents

  • Returning to the same spot morning and evening

Repeated behavior usually gives a good clue about the entry point.

Check Corners and Transitions

Common problem areas include:

  • Solar array corners

  • Uneven roof tiles

  • Conduit

  • Changes in panel height

  • Connections between mesh sections

  • Separate solar arrays

Solar panel bird mesh needs to be fitted closely around these areas.

Look for Droppings Below the Roof

Heavy droppings concentrated below one portion of the array can also help identify where pigeons spend most of their time.

If significant buildup is present, Cheetah provides roof cleaning and bird-dropping cleanup.

Check Existing Bird Mesh

If mesh is already installed, look for sections that are:

  • Pulling away

  • Bent

  • Missing clips

  • Open at the corners

  • Leaving gaps against the roof

You can often spot larger problems safely from the ground.

Finding the Opening Is Only Part of the Solution

If pigeons are already established underneath the panels, nests and debris may also need to be removed.

Professional solar panel pigeon proofing focuses on cleaning accessible nesting areas and physically blocking the entry points pigeons are using.

The most important sign is simple: if pigeons repeatedly disappear underneath the same part of your solar array, that area deserves a closer inspection.
